Man dies in hospital after shooting accident and car crash

An air ambulance lifts off from Campbell Range Road after being called to the scene of a serious crash in Barnhartvale Saturday night. One man is dead and another is in serious condition.

A man who suffered an accidental gunshot wound Saturday evening died in hospital just after midnight, Kamloops RCMP say.

Two men were taken to RIH in serious condition after the shooting accident and subsequent car crash as they raced to meet an ambulance.

RCMP were called about 6:20 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting accident near Scuitto Lake, about 40 minutes east of Kamloops. One man was shot in the wrist while with a group was shooting clay pigeons.

The 25-year-old victim called 911 himself, reporting the incident, then got into a truck to meet the ambulance.

But as the Dodge Ram pickup raced to rendezvous with B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics, it crashed on a sharp turn at the intersection of Robbins Range Road and Campbell Range Road.

"Both the driver and passenger were ejected," said Staff Sgt. Doug Aird.

The pair were eventually taken by helicopter to hospital.

Just after midnight the passenger, the man who had suffered the gunshot wound, was taken off life support and succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the driver of the truck has been upgraded to serious.

    Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

"Police are continuing to investigate and note alcohol may very well be involved in this," RCMP said.
