When will the two sections of Saddleback Drive be joined?

YOU ASKED: When are they going to put a through road in Batchelor Heights from the top of Saddleback Drive to Stagecoach Drive? They have houses along there and it would be a lot less steep in the winter than coming down Stagecoach Drive. It’s developing quite quickly up there and I feel like that through road would be beneficial for everyone.

    — Crystal Ashe

OUR ANSWER: There are two sections of Saddleback Drive in North Batchelor, one that can be accessed by Grasslands Boulevard and the other (the more northerly portion) by Stagecoach Drive.

There’s a dirt trail between the two Saddleback sections but it’s closed to all traffic except authorized vehicles working on nearby housing construction.

And that’s essentially how it will stay until the landowner decides to proceed with development (basically, until that parcel gets divided into individual lots for new houses.)

“That’s dependent on when the developer comes in for a subdivision,” confirmed the City’s planning and development manager Randy Lambright.

“At this point in time, we don’t have an active subdivision for that property yet.”

You may also be interested to know about the future extension of Grasslands Boulevard.

If you were to drive north on that road today, you would end up at a barricade preventing you from connecting to another part of Grasslands Boulevard.

Design work on that extension is expected in 2014. If everything is approved, roadwork is expected in 2015.
