Frustrated motorists, rest easy — traffic congestion caused by the closure of the Tranquille Road overpass is coming to an end.
The City announced Friday that Retro Specialty Contractors of Surrey was selected from four companies wanting to repair the damaged structure.
Repairs are supposed to begin the middle of next week, with the overpass open to the traffic on June 12, said City utilities director David Duckworth.
Retro Specialty provided the lowest, best-qualified bid at $37,406, he said. Duckworth believes at least one Kamloops company submitted a proposal.
The overpass took a heavy hit on May 11 from a transport truck hauling an excavator on a flat deck. The hit damaged and cracked the concrete and exposed the supporting rebar.
