    Sports Briefs: Clapp wins PGA of B.C. event

    Jensen Law pounded Outland Roofing 8-0 in the Kamloops Recreational Soccer League’s 30-plus division Tuesday.

    Ryan Gentile, Blake Rodgers and Mark Orr each scored twice for Jensen, with Eric Davis and Dan Laviolette scoring once each.

    In a 45-plus game Tuesday, Duffy’s Pub doubled B.C. Rivers Consulting 4-2. Bill Frymire, with two, Lance Jang and Rob Bison scored for the winners.

    Don Horning and Chuck MacKenzie replied for B.C. Rivers.

    Mark Kitts of Tobiano Golf Course finished tied for seventh at the PGA of B.C.’s assistants’ championship in Vernon.

    Kitts shot 143 in the 36-hole tournament, which ran Monday and Tuesday, and finished with a 70. He took home $616.

    Brad Clapp, a former Sun Rivers assistant who now works at Chilliwack Golf and Country Club, dominated the event, posting a 17-under 127 total to win by nine strokes. Clapp opened with a competitive course record 63 on Monday, and followed up with a 64 to win $3,000.

    Last year’s champion, Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek, shot a pair of 68s to finish second and earn $1,750, with two golfers tied for third at 141.

    The Tournament City Derby Dolls roller derby team is getting ready to play host to a doubleheader.

    The date of the bouts is June 23, with both bouts to be held at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre. The opener — scheduled for 7 p.m. — will feature the Derby Dolls and the Armstrong Candy Strykers, before the Derby Dolls’ rookie team takes on the Quesnel Gold Pain City Derby Girls.

    Tickets are available at the Ruby Room (246 Victoria St.) or from your favourite Derby Doll.

    The Derby Dolls, formed in September 2010, feature two teams of 16 skaters in flat-track derby.
