As a former member of the Kamloops Bicycle Committee, I wish to congratulate all concerned with the completion of the Valleyview Interchange Multi-Use Pathway. This was identified many years ago as the most major impediment to cycling and pedestrian access in the city.
The problem was created decades earlier, when the Trans Canada Overpass was built with absolutely no thought to pedestrian and cycling use. This formed the so-called "Berlin Wall," a very scary place to negotiate on foot or on a bicycle. It was only a matter time before a serious accident occurred due to this obstruction. Most cyclists and pedestrians avoided using the area, but with this user-friendly facility in place, that should change.
Eastbound cyclists still need their wits about them after clearing the Interchange, while crossing Valleyview Drive to the eastbound lane. It is, however, a vast improvement over the very dangerous situation that was.
