It is, quite simply, a gardener's paradise.
Each year, the best roses, lilies, orchids and dozens of other exotic flowers are put on display for the public to admire and adjudicators to judge at the Kamloops Rose and Flower Show.
Organized by the Kamloops Garden Club, the show brings together experienced and novice green thumbs for a celebration of all the floral beauty Kamloops has to offer.
"It's a really nice event," said club member Doreen Beer.
"We get all kinds of roses, a real variety, and we get irises. You name it: every kind of flower that there is."
The show takes place on Saturday, June 23, at Heritage House in Riverside Park. Club members and non-members can bring flowers to be judged in multiple categories from 8 to 10 a.m.
Ribbons and prizes will go out to the top three winners in each category.
The show opens to spectators from 2 to 4 p.m. at which time there will also be an afternoon tea with desserts and coffee, too. Admission is by donation.
Kamloops Garden Club recently celebrated its 52nd anniversary. The club has an active membership, who meets once a month throughout the year to share gardening knowledge and tips. They also hold garden tours every second Thursday from May to September.
"There is a wealth of knowledge with those people," said Beer of her fellow members.
"And anybody that joins the garden club, if they want to know something about gardening or about a particular plant, somebody will be able to answer their question."
