    Youth Soccer Roundup: U16 Blaze slams door on Shuswap

    U15 BOYS

    The Blaze finished its regular season in style, dropping host Vernon 2-0.

    Bryce Greenwood got Kamloops on the board in the first half, before Brendan Doherty converted a breakaway in the second half. Jarret Battistella got the shutout in what was a dominant effort by the Blaze.

    Kamloops is off to the Bellingham Baker Blast later this month, before playing in provincials in July.

    U13A GIRLS

    Kelowna United U14B scored in the final minutes to forge a 1-1 draw with the host Blaze on Sunday.

    Kamloops got a goal from Linnea Pasternak, and carried the lead into the final few minutes.

    The Blaze has the Baker Blast coming up, along with the A Cup provincial championships on McArthur Island in July.

    U16 BOYS

    The Blaze lost its last regular-season game and now will head to Prince George for a playoff.

    Kamloops lost 2-0 on Sunday to visiting Shuswap Selects, who lead the division.

    The Blaze, which is coached by former TRU WolfPack all-star Kyle Bowman, is scheduled to play Prince George on Saturday and Sunday, before heading to Bellingham the following week. The winner of the playoff will represent the Interior at A Cup provincials.

    U12 GIRLS

    Avery Gilbert scored in the dying seconds of a game against Kelowna White as the Blaze White team recorded a pair of Sunday victories.

    The Blaze defeated Kelowna White 3-2, before dumping Penticton by the same score.

    Gilbert was the hero in the opener, scoring as time was about to expire. Calli Lawrence had the Blaze’s first two goals in support of goalkeeper Rhean Holling.

    Lawrence took a turn in goal against Penticton, and was helped by two goals from Danielle Loring. Tyra Noble also scored in the victory.

    The Blaze Blues finished their season with a pair of Sunday games in Kelowna.

    The Blues opened with a 5-1 victory over Vernon No. 1. Myka Jardine-Arnold, with two, Kate Cartwright, Jensen Cummings and Ryallie Jorgensen had the goals. Emily Kovacs was team MVP.

    Coaches Jordy Orsetti and Gord Cummings were the MVPs of the second game, which the Blues won 2-1. Jardine-Arnold and Cartwright had the goals.

    U14 TIER 1 BOYS

    Kailum Nicolson had two goals as the Blaze defeated visiting Kelowna 2-1 on Sunday.

    Matthew Mackenzie was the winning goalkeeper.

    U12 BOYS

    The Blaze finished league play at 11-5 after splitting its Sunday games.

    Kamloops opened with a 2-0 victory over Penticton No. 2, before falling 2-1 to Vernon No. 1.

    Carter Edwards had the shutout in the opener, with goals coming from Brian Buffel and Reid Jansen, who scored on a penalty shot.

    Max Palaga had the goal in the second game, with Jordan Elfstrom in goal for the loss.

    The Blaze is off to the Baker Blast in Bellingham on the weekend.

    U16 GIRLS

    It was a dominant effort that helped the Blaze defeat visiting Shuswap 4-0 on Saturday morning.

    The Blaze slammed the door shut, not allowing a single shot on goal.

    Kamloops had no trouble finding offence, with Shelby Kieper scoring in the 10th minute and Emma McLeod scoring before the half was out. Carly Brooks and Andi Jantz piled on goals in the second half.

    U17/18 BOYS

    Harry Drew was strong in goal as the Blaze finished out its regular season with a 6-2 victory over Kelowna United on Sunday.

    The Blaze, which went 6-1-1 in league, will now get ready for A Cup provincials, July 5-8 on McArthur Island.

    Cory Kennell scored three goals for the Blaze, with Brody Osborne chipping in with a pair of goals. Clayton Farber’s single rounded out the scoring.
