It is with compassion and dismay that I read in The Daily News about residents frantically trying to save homes and possessions and appealing to other residents for help after City crews “dump sand and bags” at people’s doorsteps.
Leading the news is the message that “it is a resident’s responsibility to sandbag” and worry over Canada Day celebrations.
Really? That’s it?
I am appalled that, as part of the “emergency response” there has not been volunteer sandbagging sessions organized in the hardest hit parts of the city. We have grounds crews that should have nothing else to do but help residents weather this crisis and many of us are twiddling our thumbs waiting for an organized call for aid.
My shovel is ready! Where is the city? Oh right, “dumping sand and empty bags” in front of devastated residents.
Please rethink. Fast.
I write from the dry side of town.
