Merritt man fined $1,400 for false plate

A Merritt man must pay $1,400 in fines and stop driving for a year after police discovered he altered a licence-plate decal to appear valid.

In Merritt Court Thursday, Leonard Dale Wagner, 54, pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner and willfully falsifying documents.

According to Merritt RCMP Const. Tracy Dunsmore, police saw Wagner heading west on Highway 8 on June 20.

“When police attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic stop, the vehicle continued on to Torgeson Road where it eventually came to a stop.”

Police arrested Wagner and then discovered that the vehicle was not insured. The date decal on the licence plate had been altered to appear valid.
