Tranquille on the Lake’s neighbourhood plan sailed through a public hearing Tuesday night without opposition.
Now it has to go to the Agricultural Land Commission.
City community development manager Randy Lambright said Wednesday the project received third reading pending approval from the ALC.
“They’ve still got some agricultural commitments to fulfill. They’ve been chipping away at those. At some point, they want to start marketing land to start building,” he said.
The City and Tranquille staff have been collaborating with the ALC to make sure all issues get dealt with.
“We anticipate that’s a formality because we have been working with the ALC’s regional planner,” he said. “We anticipate we’ll have a final letter and get the final plan adopted in August.”
Once the neighbourhood plan is approved, then the zoning and phased development agreement are on the agenda.
Lambright said that’s where the specifics start to take shape.
The 190-hectare property could see 1,000 to 2,000 housing units, a hotel, and possibly a golf course, although the latter has been put on the side lately due to the closeness of the Kamloops Golf and Country Club.
Lambright said at least one more public hearing will be needed to deal with the zoning and phased development plan.
