I am becoming depressed by the number of ill-informed comments being printed in your news sheet. There are many people residing in Kamloops who have made a handsome living from mining.
Many of these people, most of whom are professional engineers are truly world class specialists, in environmental, processing, reclamation and economics, and in all technical aspects of mining design. I would guess that most would greatly welcome some spirited leadership from you journalists to present a rational assessment of the project.
You do have the resources to produce say a five-day balanced assessment of the project by sending one or more of your reporting crew to actually visit HVC or the New Gold project. Also seek out and talk to the experts here in Kamloops and then prepare a useful assessment for your readers of what modern mining is about. Publishing worthless drivel by uninformed alarmists currently in academia, without providing editorial comment to correct some of the wilder assertions made, is not a useful function and is not your obligation.
How about getting the editorial board to step up and plan a venture as I have described, which would actually inform rather than obfuscate? Journalistic duty/obligation and all that stuff you may have learned in journo school?
