Man killed after tumbling into waterfalls near Seymour Arm

A 23-year-old Saskatchewan man was killed Tuesday after falling into the waterfalls at Albas Falls Provincial Park near Seymour Arm.

Kelly Parisien, 23, of Regina, was with a party that had beached their houseboat on Shuswap Lake to go on a hike.

Witnesses reported that once near the top of the waterfalls, several hikers went beyond the trail's safety barrier to take photos.

The victim went further past a second barrier to another rock ledge then turned to face the group and slipped on wet rock, falling into the fast moving waters. He was immediately swept away over several high waterfalls.

The group raced back down along the waterway to rescue him but found him dead in calmer pools below.

At around 11:30 a.m., Chase RCMP received a call that the man had been fatally injured after slipping and falling into the falls at Albas River.

Chase RCMP members were transported by police helicopter near the area to hike into the remote location. B.C. Coroners Service and Shuswap Search and Rescue helped in the recovery.
