Cranbrook businesses have found a new way to embrace summer with weekly street fairs starting next week.

The Downtown Business Association will launch Wednesday night Summer Street Fairs on July 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"Basically, if people are not meeting the criteria of the Farmers' Market, they are meeting the criteria of our street fair," said vendor coordinator Jan Stone.

Every Wednesday through to October, 10th Avenue will be closed during the evening as local businesses line the street to display their wares.

"Anything from food to entertainment to sportswear to candles to cars…" listed Stone.

"The goal is to keep local money local and increase business to the downtown core."

Already businesses are lining up to participate in the street fair, which will be a place for Cranbrook people to unite each week.

The street fair will be held in conjunction with the Cranbrook Farmers' Market on four evenings over summer when the market hosts its popular night market in Rotary Park. The first of these is this Wednesday, July 11, then on July 25, August 8 and August 22.

Any vendors wishing to participate in the weekly street fair can contact Jan Stone at 250-421-8422 or jan@cranbrookdba.com.
