YOU ASKED: I’ve been noticing the work being done behind the B.C. Hydro substation on Douglas Street. They’re putting in large, metal hydro poles that go off toward the Ajax mine location. Is this for the mine?
OUR ANSWER: No, those new poles are not for the proposed Ajax mine.
B.C. Hydro spokesperson Dag Sharman tells us the utilities provider is replacing old wood poles with double-circuit steel poles to accommodate a new, 138-kilovolt line.
The added line will help serve a growing demand for electricity in Kamloops, said Sharman, which includes New Gold’s New Afton copper and gold mine just outside city limits.
That underground mining operation is not connected to the Ajax open-pit copper-gold project.
