Axe-wielding 'thugs' invade North Kamloops apartment

'Investigators are characterizing this incident as a drug related matter'

Police suspect drug involvement in a North Kamloops home invasion that ended with a victim being hit on the head with a hatchet.

A around 8 p.m. Tuesday, two men entered an apartment in the 900 block of Eighth Street where a 27-year-old man lived with his 54-year-old roommate.

The younger roommate said the men came into his room and threw a jar of mayonnaise at him.

"The victim stated that he pushed past the thugs and got hit in the head with something," said RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned.

The victim suspects it was a hatchet. He said he knew the assailants but wanted no further police involvement.

Two male guests at the apartment when police attended said they didn't see anything.

Several patrol units set up a perimeter without success.

The victim was taken to Royal Inland Hospital by B.C. Ambulance with a cut to his forehead.

"Investigators are characterizing this incident as a drug related matter," said Learned.
