Police check a vehicle that was involved in break-in attempts at the Aberdeen Mall parking lot.

Kamloops RCMP have a suspect in custody after being alerted to a man seen trying to jimmy open cars parked at Aberdeen Mall on Friday morning.

Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Ben Rodrigue said in a press release Friday a witness reported seeing a man trying to break into several vehicles in the parking lot, then getting into a Honda CRV.

A police officer saw the SUV in the Dufferin area, and the driver pulled into the Canadian Tire lot and fled.

A woman who remained in the Honda was taken into police custody, while the search continued for the man.

Rodrigue said the man was arrested in the store with some items he stole from Canadian Tire in his possession.

The man and woman are prolific offenders from the Lower Mainland. They face charges of possession over and under $5,000, theft under $5,000, driving while prohibited, possession of drugs, possession of break-in instruments and breaches of other court cases.
