New recycling business applying for rezoning in Kamloops

A new recycling business could be coming soon to Kamloops.

Brett Shepherd Holdings Inc. has applied to the City to rezone some land on Mission Flats Road for a recycling operation.

City planner Stephen Bentley said Friday the proposal, east of the Domtar pulp mill, involves accepting and sorting recyclables such as glass, plastic, paper and organic material like yard and food waste.

The proposed business would run similarly to the City’s residential recycling program, making pickups, probably from commercial operations, he said.

The land is already zoned for heavy industrial use, but the minimum lot size needs to be reduced to permit subdivision of the property.

The proposal will go to council Tuesday for a decision on whether to proceed to a public hearing.
