    Another car, another storefront

Driver takes shopping too far at Summit Shopping Centre

A novice driver mistook the brake for the gas pedal, sending her Pontiac into the Lammle's Western Wear & Tack on Thursday.

Oops, it happened again. For the third time in as many months, a vehicle smashed through a storefront window on Thursday.

And, as with similar incidents in May and June, the latest crash caused no injuries.

At around 2:30 p.m., two young women in a Pontiac drove into a plate glass window at Lammle's Western Wear & Tack at Summit Shopping Centre at Columbia Street and Summit Drive.

The vehicle jumped a parking divider and a sidewalk and broke the window, stopping short of entering the store.

Behind the wheel was a novice driver who confused the brake and gas pedals, according to RCMP Const. Mike Scherpenisse.

Store employees confirmed there were no injuries among the staff.

And a woman seen comforting the young driver said the girl was shaken and crying but uninjured.

Michelle Harmon was visiting Kamloops from Barriere and was at the Pizza Hut across the parking lot when she heard the crash.

She noticed the girls in the car and rushed over.

"I just wanted to comfort her because sometimes when you're that scared, you just need a mom," said Harmon. "I'm a mother of eight so I know. I told her, 'That's what insurance is for. As long and you and everybody are OK. They can fix the window.'"

    Police are still investigating.

On May 29, a 60-year-old woman drove her SUV into the Sahali Shoe Warehouse and was fined for driving without due care.

A few days later, a man drove into the Nature's Fare storefront, causing minor damage.

In June 2011, a woman smashed through a Bank of Montreal on the North Shore causing no injuries, and an elderly driver's car pinned a man after jumping the sidewalk and smashing into the Sure Print and Copy on Tranquille Road.

In January 2011, a woman crashed through a Canadian Tire window, causing major damage and minor injuries to one customer.
