Sports Briefs: Davis signs with Everett; curling event has sponsor

    Hugo Yuen

The 12th annual Dolson’s Peter Puck hockey camp is going hard this week at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre. On Wednesday morning, Dianna Hartnell, the organizer and an instructor, worked on balance and the art of stopping with a number of young players. Former Kamloops Blazers captain Jarret Lukin is back as one of the school’s instructors.

Kevin Davis, a defenceman from Kamloops, has signed a WHL education contract with the Everett Silvertips.

Davis, 15, was the Silvertips’ first selection, 11th overall, in May’s bantam draft after spending last season with the Jardine’s Blazers. The 6-foot-0, 155-pound blue-liner had 46 points, 31 of them assists, in 49 games with the Blazers.

Davis is expected to play with the major-midget Thompson Blazers this season.

The Crown of Curling has a new title sponsor — Valley First.

The Crown of Curling, which is scheduled for Oct. 19-22 at the Kamloops Curling Club, is expected to draw 48 teams for its 39th edition. Teams come from all over Western Canada, Europe and Asia.

Valley First is one of the Interior’s oldest credit unions. The Crown of Curling didn’t have a title sponsor in 2011.

Alexa Melnychuk and Alex Polson had the other Ideal goals, and Chrissy Hanson was the winning goalkeeper. Further information was unavailable.
