The regional district is taking steps to designate a community park in Moyie.
Two pieces of land at the south end of Moyie Lake are currently managed as day use parks by the Aldridge Community Association.
But rising insurance costs have pushed the association to seek takeover by the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK).
In order to that, the RDEK must first apply to the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for tenure agreements on the Crown land. Currently, the community association holds the tenure on one of the properties.
The two pieces of land are used to access Moyie Lake near Eagles Nest RV Resort along the Moyie River.
The community association has managed the park for the past 30 years and is prepared to continue managing the area under the regional district's control.
The plans come as the RDEK also considers parks at St. Mary Lake and Cherry Creek Falls in Meadowbrook.
