The Perseid meteor shower has started and will be visible throughout the weekend and into Monday in B.C.
Kamloops Astronomical Society president Bev Markle said the Perseid shower is the best time to view meteors in our hemisphere because of the magnitude of the shower combined with the warm weather.
The Gemini shower occurs in January, she said, but it's cold outside then so not such a popular viewing time.
Markle recommends sitting in lounge chairs that make it easy to stare up at the sky.
"The moon is in a really good position because it isn't full, so the sky tends to be darker," she said.
Still, getting out of the city to somewhere really dark is best.
According to NASA, the Perseids are so named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus.
