    Airport traffic rises

The Kamloops airport has seen an increase in traffic of all sorts this year.

So far this year, 159,161 travelers have flown, up 4.8 per cent over last year.

The biggest increase in actual air traffic has been in local flights operated through a new flight school, the Canadian Flight Centre. It opened this year as a satellite operation of a school based in Boundary Bay near Vancouver.

"We do get a lot of requests for pilot training," said Ed Ratuski, Kamloops Airport manager of operations.

Commercial flights increased in July to 1,038, compared to 1,013 in July 2011.

People are traveling more, too. This July, 22,427 fliers passed through the turnstiles, 5.5 per cent more people than last July.
