Highway 1 was closed in both directions Sunday afternoon after reports of a fatal motor vehicle accident.
Drive B.C. reported the closure in both directions about six kilometres east of Spences Bridge at 3:15 p.m.
RCMP did not provide details by early Sunday evening, but said the highway was closed "indefinitely."
According to unconfirmed reports, the driver of a vehicle from Alberta was following friends riding a pair of motorcycles when the driver was involved in a head-on accident.
The motorcyclists doubled back and entered the Log Cabin Pub on the Trans-Canada Highway to use a phone. An employee drove the pair to the scene of the accident.
Locals were told the anticipated reopening would be at around 9:30 p.m.
