A dozen dangerous drivers nabbed in Barriere

Barriere RCMP were grateful to have extra hands on deck for the Secwepemc Gathering over the weekend when police impounded no less than 13 vehicles for a variety of driving infractions.

Although Barriere RCMP Const. Evan Cadwallader said none of the violations were linked to the event, over just a few days police impounded the 13 vehicles.

RCMP seized seven motorcycles travelling together for excessive speeding — including some riders who clocked at nearly 200 km/h. They could face fines of nearly $500 for the offence.

Police also impounded a car for nine days for “stunting,” said Cadwallader, when the driver attempted to pass a semi truck and trailer on a double lined portion of highway only to come face-to-face with a police cruiser coming the opposite way.

Both drivers slammed on the brakes and the dangerous driver was able to swerve back into his lane, barely missing the truck’s back end, said the officer.

Another car from Alberta was towed away after being involved in a single vehicle accident. Cadwallader didn’t know the circumstances of the crash but said the lone occupant suffered minor injuries.

Three vehicles were taken away for 30 days after the drivers were deemed drunk.

And finally one car was impounded because the driver was prohibited from driving.
