A Cirque du Soleil truck driver was fired and a second contracted out driver punished for ignoring instructions to circumvent the Red Bridge last week.
The men admitted to driving their trucks across the bridge, contravening posted weight limits and causing other vehicles to have to back out of the narrow crossing to allow them to pass.
The drivers delivered trailers full of gear to the Interior Savings Centre on Aug. 13 and were photographed crossing the bridge by an aghast driver waiting in backed-up traffic.
“They had received very detailed instructions from our lead driver with the recommended routing avoiding the bridge,” said Cirque du Soleil representative Jessica Leboeuf. “Since one of the drivers was under our employment, we have applied an immediate sanction and he will not be completing the tour with us.”
The second driver was not with the show, so management informed his supervisor of the offence.
