After a fire destroyed hundreds of pounds of food at the Kamloops Food Bank earlier this month, the Kamloops Centre for Rational Thought saw a need and did something about it.
The group ran a three-week fundraising drive and on Thursday, presented a $2,500 cheque to food bank manager Bernadette Siracky.
New sanitary lift station slated for McArthur Island
A 1950s-built sanitary lift station on McArthur Island is getting too old to do its job well any more.
So the City is spending $1.5 million to build a new, energy-efficient station that includes a new odour control system, high-efficiency pumps and landscaping to fit it into the park surroundings.
The new station is expected to use less than half the energy of the existing station, reducing the energy consumption by 70,000 kilowatt hours in its first year.
But construction will be an inconvenience west of the skate park and north of the Boys and Girls Club at times.
Construction begins Aug. 27 and will finish in spring of 2013.
