The federal government is putting $23,643 from its Aboriginal Languages Initiative into a program for Metis peoples in Kamloops and Merritt to help preserve the Michif language.
The Lii Michif Otipemisiwak Family and Community Services Society will be able to offer three, 10-week-long Michif language and jigging programs.
The programs will teach 75 participants — children, youth, parents, and elders —weekly lessons that will increase their knowledge of their history, language and culture.
