Driver blows stop sign, sends motorcyclist to surgery

Police are describing a crash in downtown Kamloops involving a motorcycle and pick up truck as just a sad situation.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night when an out-of-town driver going north on Eighth Avenue didn't notice the stop sign at Seymour Street, according to RCMP.

Witnesses reported the driver blew through the intersection and crashed into a motorcyclist travelling east on Seymour Street.

The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries that required surgery, according to police.

"It was one of those accidents, I think it's pretty sad," said Staff Sgt. Lane Jumaga. "The driver was remorseful so that speaks for itself."

He said the truck driver will face charges under the motor vehicle act. Police don't suspect alcohol was involved. The investigation continues.
