Spences Bridge Community Hall to receive upgrades

The Archie Clemes Community Hall in Spences Bridge will be upgrading its heating equipment, exterior doors, lighting, bathroom fixtures and ceiling insulation with funding from the Federal Tax Community Works Fund, which was approved by the TNRD recently.

The TNRD agreed up to $80,000 may be spent on the energy-efficient upgrades, according to a TNRD press release.

The Spences Bridge Community Club owns and operates the hall, and will use the funding to do the upgrades.

"The money is going to great use as it will make the community hall, which is more than 100 years old, more energy efficient, as well as more functional," said Steven Rice, Area I director.

Under an amendment to the gas tax agreement, buildings and infrastructure owned by non-governmental organizations are eligible for funding if the organization abides by the terms and conditions of the agreement.

To date, the TNRD has approved $2.6 million for 63 projects under the fund, which provides funding to municipal infrastructure that contributes to cleaner air and water, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
