Real estate sales ahead of B.C. average

Two-thirds of the way through the year, the president of Kamloops and District Real Estate Society predicts the local market will beat the provincial average.

While August numbers are not complete, realtor Dave Peressini said sales here will be down from the 250 set in the same month last year. But that comes after a surge of 30 per cent or so in July this year, which typically means a slower following month.

For the year "we're on par or just slightly ahead."

B.C.'s real estate board is predicting sales provincewide will be down about four per cent at the end of the year, led by a slowing Greater Vancouver market.

"We have stronger numbers than Vancouver," said Peressini, predicting the year here will equal 2011.
