The public will get yet another chance to hear details and debate the merits of the proposed Ajax mining project during a forum presented by the Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association's human rights committee next weekend.
On Sunday at 2 p.m., the public is invited to the Clocktower Building on the university's campus to review and speak to the proposal to create an open pit copper and gold mine on the southern edge of Kamloops.
Derek Cook, faculty association human rights chair and an instructor of political studies, stated in an email that the discussion will provide a "transparent examination of claims and perspectives" of the mine in the context of its proximity to the university.
"For consideration are issues of location, health, air, water and the environment, the economy, investment, taxes, tax subsidies, law, process, federal, provincial and municipal politics, the effect on our Tournament Capital image, the effect on TRU and the will of the people of Kamloops," stated Cook in an email.
"If it goes ahead, this open pit mine will change the face of Kamloops forever. Do we want it? What are the best reasons for and against?"
Cook did not state whether representatives from Ajax or mine opponents Kamloops Area Preservation Association (KAPA) will be there.
However, whether for or against the mine proposal, speakers will be subject to questions from the floor and cross-examination from the chair.
Cook asks that anyone wanting to address the gathering contact him by email at dcook@tru.ca or by phone at 250-828-5244.
