Merritt is one of the regional communities marking an event on world suicide prevention day.
The day, Monday, Sept. 10, is being recognized with an information kiosk at Cooper’s Foods in Nicola Valley. It also includes remembrance activities.
In 2010 there were more than 450 deaths in B.C. due to suicide, according to Interior Health. Another 2,800 people went to hospital with self-inflicted injuries.
The health authority opened a crisis line network earlier this year, providing 24-hour access at 1-888-353-CARE.
