    Storm opens with win

The Kamloops Storm opened its exhibition season with a 4-2 victory over the host Chase Heat on Saturday night.

The Storm, a member of the Kootenay International Junior B Hockey League, has three exhibition games remaining. Tuesday night, Kamloops will welcome the Princeton Posse to the Brocklehurst Recreation Centre for a 7:30 start.

Kamloops also will play host to the Heat at Brocklehurst on Thursday, 7:30 p.m., before finishing the preseason against the Posse in Princeton on Saturday. The Storm’s regular season will start Sept. 14, when the Spokane Braves make an appearance at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre.

On Saturday, the Storm was led by three young prospects.

Goaltenders Bailey De Palma and Ty Hamer-Jackson led the Storm over Chase, with each netminder allowing one goal on 16 shots in a half of action.

Brett Watkinson, a Kamloops Minor Hockey product like De Palma and Hamer-Jackson, had a goal and an assist to lead the offence. Austin Braid, Daniel Buchanan and Ian Chrystal also scored for the Storm. Chrystal also added an assist.

    Chase’s scorers were unavailable.

The Heat has three exhibition games remaining, including Thursday’s rematch with Kamloops. It also will play twice in Princeton on the weekend — against the Golden Rockets on Saturday and the host Posse on Sunday.

Chase will open its regular season on Sept. 14 in Revelstoke against the Grizzlies. The first regular-season meeting between the Storm and Heat will be Sept. 28 at McArthur Island.
