TRU men's soccer team through with exhibition play

The TRU WolfPack men’s soccer team wrapped up its preseason with a 2-0 exhibition loss to the host Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday.

The WolfPack is set to open its PacWest regular season on Saturday against the visiting Douglas College Royals.

Trinity Western plays in the CIS-Canada West, which is a higher league than PacWest.

Travis Froehlich was in goal for the loss.

“We held our own in the second half and had some good chances in the first,” WolfPack co-coach John Antulov said in a news release. “A couple of mental mistakes in the last two minutes of the first half cost us. I thought at times we dominated in the second 45 minutes.”

The WolfPack will spend this week cutting down to 25 players before taking on the Royals on Saturday at Hillside Stadium. Game time is 2 p.m.

The WolfPack women’s soccer team also opens its PacWest season on Saturday.

The WolfPack is the PacWest’s defending champion and will begin defence of its crown against Douglas College starting at noon.

The WolfPack played three exhibition games in August, winning two of them and losing the other.
