The Canadian women’s wheelchair basketball team, including Jessica Vliegenthart of Kamloops, has moved into the quarterfinals at the London Paralympics.
Canada got there with a 67-50 victory over Great Britain on Monday. That left Canada with a 3-1 record in its round-robin pool. Canada will meet Team USA in a quarterfinal game Tuesday.
Three teams — Australia, Netherlands and Canada — finished 3-1 in Group A. Germany topped Group B, at 4-0, with the U.S. second at 3-1.
Tuesday’s other quarterfinals have Australia meeting Mexico, Netherlands playing China and Germany against Great Britain.
Against Great Britain, Katie Harnock of Elmira, Ont., led Canada with a career-high 20 points, along with six rebounds. Janet McLachlan of Vancouver, who has dominated in these Games, had a game-high 15 rebounds.
Vliegenthart, a co-captain along with McLachlan, had two points, one assist and a rebound in 10 minutes 29 seconds of playing time.
On Sunday, Team Canada scored a 65-51 victory over Brazil. McLachlan had 36 points and 23 rebounds. Vliegenthart had four points and an assist in 29:42.
On Saturday, Canada got past Australia 57-50 as McLachlan put in 28 points and hauled down 21 rebounds. Vliegenthart, who played 33:16, was pointless with three rebounds.
