The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe goes on, with tickets for four fundraising performances still available.
The play will kick off the Kamloops Players’ 2012-2013 season at the Stagehouse Theatre at 422 Tranquille Rd. Performances run Sept. 14,15, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. with half of each night’s ticket sales donated to a different charity and the remainder designated for upgrades at the theatre.
“We’ve been there less than a year and there’s upgrades we’d like to do. Better lighting, better seating,” said Patricia Zogar, who performs in the one-woman show.
The players wanted to give back to the community, so Desert Gardens Community Centre was selected as the charity of choice for the Sept. 14 show, the Phoenix Centre for Sept. 15, the Centre for Spiritual Living will benefit Sept. 21 and Pride Kamloops is the charity Sept. 22.
“I think it’s really important to build connections and for community groups to work together,” she said.
The play is about Trudy, a New York City bag lady, who finds herself at a crossroads waiting for the arrival of intergalactic visitors. Through the course of the play, she takes them and us on a wild journey of our world where we meet a bored socialite, an insecure bodybuilder, a misfit teen, and a group of 1970s feminists, among others.
“It’s a one-person show but I play 13 different characters,” said Zogar. “It’s beautifully woven together. It will make you laugh. It will make you think. It will stay with you.”
Tickets are $20 and are available at Mystic Dreams at 419 Tranquille Rd., participating charities or by phoning 250-682-2164.
