The big comic convention is in San Diego but Kamloops will host its own celebration of the four-coloured medium next month.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District and High Octane Comics and Collectibles have partnered for the event, which takes place Saturday, Oct. 6, at the downtown library. Doors open at 2 p.m.
High Octane owner Ryan Lopes said award-winning comic book artist Nina Matsumoto will attend, share her experiences in the industry and be one of the judges of an art contest.
Aspiring artists are encouraged to create a picture in the comic or manga style and drop it off at the library’s children’s desk by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Lopes said the winner receives a prize from his store.
Everyone who attends is encouraged to dress in costume, he said.
Lopes hopes the mini convention will promote the comic medium and let people know the stories aren’t only for children.
“It’s more of an introduction to the medium of comics,” Lopes said, of the event.
