A cigarette or other smoking material might be the cause a fire in a fourplex on Selkirk Avenue Thursday night, said an official with Kamloops Fire and Rescue.
Assistant chief Dennis Fayers said the blaze burned a mattress and surrounding room in the home. Damage is estimated at about $2,000.
Fayers said no one was home when firefighters arrived at about 9 p.m. Crews were on scene for two hours.
An investigation is ongoing.
