The TRU WolfPack men’s soccer team got into the win column for the first time this Pacific Western Athletic Association season, but could only manage a weekend split.
The WolfPack defeated the Quest Kermodes 2-0 in Squamish on Saturday, before falling 1-0 to the Langara Falcons in Burnaby on Sunday.
The WolfPack’s conference record is 1-2-1 ahead of another road weekend — TRU will play against the Capilano Blues in Vancouver on Saturday and the Vancouver Island Mariners in Nanaimo on Sunday.
The Falcons scored the winner in injury time of Sunday’s contest.
Saturday’s match was the first victory of the season for the WolfPack, which went 0-1-1 in its home-opening weekend on Sept. 8-9.
In the victory, TRU got two goals from fourth-year midfielder Ashley Raynes, and a shutout from Travis Froehlich.

The WolfPack women’s soccer team also split its weekend games, falling 1-0 to the Kermodes in Squamish on Saturday before defeating host Langara 3-1 on Sunday.
The results mean the WolfPack is 3-1-0 for the season — in fact, the Saturday loss was TRU’s first regular-season defeat since losing its opener of the 2011 season.
Laura Smylie opened the scoring early in Sunday’s victory, before Marlie Rittinger scored later in the half. Langara cut the lead to 2-1 in the 68th minute, but Taylor Miller put it away with a goal in the 83rd minute.
Emily Edmundson was in goal for the Saturday loss, with the lone goal getting past her in the 55th minute. Taylor Shantz, a Kamloops Youth Soccer product now playing for Quest, posted the shutout.

The WolfPack hockey team opened its preseason with a 4-3 loss to the Selkirk Saints in Castlegar on Friday evening.
TRU is scheduled to open its B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League regular season on Oct. 6, when it heads to Langley to play Trinity Western. The WolfPack has two exhibition games remaining — against the Grant MacEwan Griffins on Sept. 29, and the SAIT Trojans on Sept. 30, as part of a SAIT tournament.
The WolfPack trailed 4-2 after two periods on Friday, and could only get to within one in the third period on an Alessio Tomassetti marker. Anthony Delong and Colten De Frias also scored for the WolfPack, which split the goaltending between Riley Wall and Adrien Hervillard.
