An open house at the Stake Lake Star Park features a silent auction fundraiser that includes a Meade Model DS-60 refracting telescope.
The event sponsored by the Kamloops Astronomical Society takes place Saturday on the southwestern shore of Stake Lake, 20 minutes south of Kamloops, in the staging grounds for Overland Ski Club's cross-country ski meets.
It starts at 6 p.m. with refreshments and door prizes, then at 7 p.m. there will be presentations from BCIT instructor Bill Burnyeat and environmental consultant Robert Maciak.
Weather permitting, there will be viewing at the observatory and at club members' telescopes. Bring your own chair, dress warmly, bring a red head lamp or flashlight, and wear sturdy outdoor footwear.
