Deadline nears for charities wanting in on Cheer fund

The deadline for local charities to get a piece of The Daily News Christmas Cheer Fund is fast approaching.

The fund has raised almost $477,000 over the last 10 years, including more than $80,000 in each of the last two years.

If you are involved with a local registered charity and would like to share in the fund, simply visit The Daily News' website (kamloopsnews.ca), click on the Christmas Cheer Fund logo — it's right there, on the left-hand side — and follow the instructions, which aren't at all difficult.

Recipients will be selected by a committee comprising Tim Shoults, the publisher of The Daily News; Gregg Drinnan, the sports editor of The Daily News; Scott Huyghebaert of the Kamloops law firm Morelli LLP; Jo-Ann Lovesy of The Daily News' finance department; Dean Nicholson, senior financial consultant with Investors Group; and, Larry Read, the sports information officer at Thompson Rivers University.

The 2012 Christmas Cheer Fund will open for business in mid-November.
