Kamloops teen Derek Lapierre will attend the 17th International Burn Camp, an annual event that helps teenagers cope with their life-changing injuries.
Each year, the International Association of Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation selects young burn survivors, ages 13-15, and professional fire fighters or camp counsellors from regional burn camps across the United States and Canada to attend the week-long camp in Washington, D.C.
“Burns can leave scars that never heal and emotional wounds that no medical care can repair. Our burn camp helps teenage burn survivors cope with their trauma by allowing them to spend time in a supportive atmosphere rooted in their shared experience,” said Harold Schaitberger, IAFF General President and Chairman of the IAFF Charitable Foundation.
