The City and SD 73 spent a lot of time and money making improvements to the parking and drop off area at the corner where upper and lower Highridge Drive meet.
I think they were meant to be improvements but they just screwed it up more. School District 73 moved the fence closer to the school in order to widen the parking along the fence.
There was a space of about five feet between the fence and the concrete barrier and now there is about a 12-foot space and no increase in parking. There was room for about five cars to park on the school side across from the 1100-block houses. Now there is no room to park there as they have the barrier too close to the road and they put up no stopping signs. People do park there but illegally as they are on the travelled portion of the road.
They then paved a portion of the corner and put in a drop-off zone with no parking signs. The problem is, the people dropping off students are going to the kindergarten or Grade One part of the school, and these students are to be taken to the door and picked up at the door. They also changed the corner with barriers and instead of a curve onto upper Highridge we now have a sharp turn. So where do parents now park?
On upper Highridge, illegally parking on the traveled portion of the road makes it dangerous and unsafe for the parents and students going into the school.
In my opinion, a royal waste of taxpayer’s money.
