I am certain that I am just one of many compass-critical citizens who noticed the error in the first sentence of the New Gold story (Mine Opening a Blast, The Daily News, Sept. 17).

That particular mine, west of Kamloops, is a positive and welcome addition to our local economy. The mine is located far enough away from Kamloops' population base that its day-to-day operations do not impact us in any other than for the good of so many of us.

For readers from outside of our city, it is important for them to know where we have such an investment and showpiece and they should know where to find it.

On the other hand, if the proposed Ajax mine goes ahead, it won't be so tough to find. Follow the dust cloud, the noise from blasting and haul trucks, the illumination of the night sky by artificial light or the new high-voltage lines carrying publicly subsidized electricity from the Valleyview sub station. Or, take a short hike behind Aberdeen elementary school about one kilometre or so. If you need a compass, take a heading to the southwest. You won't be able to miss it!
