The Kamloops Storm tasted defeat for the first time this KIJHL season on Saturday, losing 3-2 in double overtime to the North Okanagan Knights in Armstrong.

It was a little revenge for the Knights, who had lost to the Storm 4-3 in double overtime at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre on Friday night.

Harlan Orr was the hero Saturday, scoring 1:48 into the second overtime to lift the Knights. He also scored the last goal of regulation, with 4:44 to go in the second period.

Mac Ferner, the son of former Kamloops Blazers head coach Mark Ferner, had the Knights’ first goal, on a first-period power play.

Armstrong goaltender Dustin Nikkel turned aside 34 shots.

Ryan Skinner, on a power play, and Ian Chrystal had first-period goals for the Storm. Spencer Schoech added two assists, and Marcus Beesley made 36 saves in the loss.

The Storm, now 2-0-0-1, is off to Revelstoke on Tuesday for a game with the Grizzlies. It will return to the Sport Centre on Friday, 7 p.m., to play host to the Chase Heat.

The Heat lost 7-3 to the host Sicamous Eagles on Sunday. Connor Buick had two goals for the Eagles, who got singles from Corbin Marcotte, Brendan Devries, Cameron Berry, Jordan Harder and Brett Trofanenko. Jack Surgenor made 16 saves in the victory.

Shelby Kostyshen, McKenzie Guardiero and Connor Venne replied for the Heat, and Devon Pearson stopped 29 shots.

The Heat is off until its Friday game with the Storm.

Although it’s only two weeks into the season, the KIJHL’s Doug Birks Division is shaping up to be a fun one.

After Sunday’s games, all five teams were within two points of each other. Sicamous (2-0-0-2) is first, with six points, one point ahead of Kamloops (2-0-0-1), Revelstoke (2-1-0-1) and North Okanagan (2-1-0-1). Chase (2-2-0-0) is fifth, with four points.

Four of the five teams will qualify for the postseason.
