Regarding Crime Stats a Tricky Thing (The Daily News, Sept. 18). There is a clear difference between crime stats for drug charges and those for property crime and violence.
Violence and property crime result in victims who are likely to be motivated to report the crime to police. I expect drug crime is much less likely to be reported, so drug-charge stats will clearly be much more dependent on the success of law enforcement in targeting drug crime.
