Kamloops Wildfire Centre crews were using every measure to suppress a fast moving forest fire 50 kilometres west of Kamloops on Monday.

Firefighters received a call alerting them to the blaze at Guichon Creek off Tunkwa Lake Road around 8 p.m. Sunday.

No structures were jeopardized, but crews spent Sunday night attempting to contain the "highly vigorous surface fire" overtaking trees and logging slash in the remote area, said fire information officer Michaela Swan.

By Monday morning it was at six hectares and it quickly grew to 30 hectares by mid afternoon. Twenty-seven firefighters were working to build a guard assisted by water trucks, bulldozers, an air tanker and helicopter.

The fire's cause is suspected to be human activity since there's been no lightning in the area, said Swan.

Wildfire Centre personnel will investigate further once the fire is contained.
