    Sports Briefs: 'Cats blanked in Vernon; titans win TRU tourney

    The peewee Kamloops Wildcats were shut out 39-0 by the host Vernon Yellow Jackets in community football play on Sunday.

    Kamloops quarterback Carsen Day targeted receivers Ben Prokopetz, Cameron Treadwell and Reggie O’Rourke for 106 combined yards, with Marcus Kyle and Prokopetz adding another 72 yards on the ground.

    Sean Smit and Rorik Munson led the defence with 12 combined tackles, with Colby Griffiths, Dwight Eccles, Brennan Ettinger, Isiah Lunot, Gregory Griffiths and Mathew Stahope contributing 14 more.

    The Wildcats take their 2-4 record on the road to Kelowna where they will meet the Lions on Sunday.

    The South Kamloops Titans senior girls volleyball team won a tournament at TRU on the weekend.

    The Titans, with Mieke DuMont named the tournament MVP, went 7-0, beating the Vernon-Kalamalka Lakers 25-21, 25-18 in the final.

    In the round-robin, the Titans beat Kalamalka (25-18, 20-25, 15-11), the Chilliwack-G.W. Graham Grizzlies (25-11, 25-8), and the Surrey-Lord Tweeds-muir Panthers (25-17, 25-11).

    In the playoffs, South Kam got past the Revelstoke Rams (25-8, 25-14), the North Surrey Spartans (25-16, 25-13) and the Langley-D.W. Poppy Redhawks (25-9, 25-15).
