Union urges workers to accept deal with Domtar

'We had a few odds and ends on the local agreement. The main thing is we got the pattern'

The union representing Domtar workers is urging members to accept a deal reached late Wednesday.

Murray Matheson, president of Communication, Energy and Paperworkers Local 10b, said the union has reached the pattern deal first set in northern B.C.

It provides lump sums of $3,750 in each of the first two years, followed by two per cent, 2.5 per cent and three per cent.

“We were able to achieve the pattern negotiated at the Canfor site (in Prince George),” he said. “We had a few odds and ends on the local agreement. The main thing is we got the pattern.”

Workers will vote Tuesday to ratify the deal.

About 350 unionized members voted earlier this week in favour of a strike to back demands.
