A fiery collision between two trucks killed both drivers and sparked a grass fire 40 kilometres south of Kamloops at about 7 p.m. Friday.
"Two very large commercial semi -trailer-type trucks collided on Highway 5A near the Stump Lake rest stop, pretty well head on," B.C. Coroners Service spokesperson Barb McLintock told CBC. "One was carrying cement concrete. Both . . . were very large, heavy vehicles."
One of the vehicles was a fuel truck, she said.
Emergency crews from Kamloops and Merritt responded to the scene on Highway 5A near Stump Lake Ranch. Forestry crews also attended to contain the brush fire, which grew to 20 hectares.
The highway was closed until about noon Saturday, then opened to one lane of traffic.
